Mahin Cottage in Manali isn’t large, but I found it quite charming. Situated not far from Manali’s Mall Road, it offers a pleasant place to stay while in the area. Our car was parked behind the cottage among 3-4 other cars.

My brother-in-law had some work commitments in Manali. His clients had arranged for accommodation at Mahin’s Cottage in Manali.

The suite we were given had a dining table placed near the entrance, although the room size with a double bed was somewhat compact.
After traveling all the way from Shimla, and navigating through the under-construction express highway, we were exhausted and went straight to bed upon arriving at Mahin Cottage. The staff there was helpful and full of energy. It seemed like one person was managing the entire property, with perhaps one or two others assisting him in the kitchen.
The following morning, breakfast was served promptly, and we decided to enjoy it outdoors on the lawn, basking in the gentle sunlight. The sun’s rays felt mild due to Manali’s cold weather absorbing most of the heat, creating a pleasant atmosphere at Mahin Cottage where we savored our breakfast outdoors.
Quick walk In Manali
I realized that I was quite near Hidimba Temple, so I decided to take a leisurely walk to the renowned temple. Although I had visited Hidimba Temple several times before, I had always been in a rush. This time was different—I had plenty of time on my hands.
I was in no hurry at all!
Therefore, I chose to sit in the spacious courtyard in front of the temple and quietly observe the activities of tourists. That’s exactly what I did. I gazed at the temple, appreciating the craftsmanship, engineering, and its unique architecture.
This temple is a protected monument under the Archaeological Survey of India and is the most visited temple in Manali, indeed in the entire Himachal region.
The temple is dedicated to the demoness Hidimba, who was married to Bhima. Despite being a demoness, she fulfilled her duties as a devoted wife. She raised her son Ghatotkach single-handedly and is revered as “Hidimba Mata,” even protecting the entire Manali region.
Similar to many other tourist destinations, the temple appeared to be providing employment opportunities for villagers. I observed local women carrying rabbits, and men leading yaks to assist tourists in creating lasting memories.
Vashistha Temple
One must visit the Vashsitha temple which is around 400 years old and famous for its natural hot water springs. The main occasion for Vashsitha’s public appearance is during the temple festival in April.
Vashishtha visits annually to Bhrighu Lake where he bathes.
Vashishtha does not take part in the Dasara festival in Kullu.
Other Adventure Activities in Manali
When comparing Manali to Shimla, Manali offers a wider range of activities. In Manali, you can experience paragliding, rafting, skiing, and zorbing. It’s easy to rent bikes, making a short bike trip a feasible option. For those seeking more adventure, trekking is also popular, such as the Jogini Water Falls Trek.
Rafting on the River Beas may seem daunting, but those with a strong heart won’t want to miss the opportunity. The same goes for paragliding.
